Gold is the most transparently priced metal on earth. It trades continuously, settles twice daily against the LBMA auction, and is held as much for what it represents as for what it does.

Supply
Supply is unusually diffuse. No single country produces more than a small share of world output, and roughly a quarter of annual supply comes from recycling rather than mining.
